Continues to be a complete pain in the butt. It goes to sleep and NEVER wakes up to print. You have to power it down, which takes almost one minute, then power it back up again. So to print a page can take you 2 to 3 minutes. Sorry I ever bought it and sorrier I didn't return it.
Revised after 2 months:
It now apparently has a clogged print nozzle that won't clear, or some other issue that is making it not print colors properly, omitting some color ink in 1/16" stripes across the paper. I have ONLY used the original cartridges that came with it. This is a TOTAL WASTE OF MONEY, POS!
Revised, after 2 weeks.
This printer continues to annoy the hell out of me. Amongst other things, it absolutely will NOT stay powered up and connected, as they force it to "sleep". And every time it sleeps, it NEVER wakes up, meaning it never re-connects to My PC. So I have to power it down (which, incredibly, takes over 30 seconds), and then re-start it. With normal light use, that means that EVERY TIME I try to print, it is in that state and I have to get up and spend 2 minutes to print a page. I have now had 4 long tech support calls, all with people who I had trouble understanding due to accented English. Every time I get the printer function straightened out, the scanner function stops working, requiring another call.
Original review:
Ok, I have had this printer plugged in for 6 hours. And let me say that I am a techie...grew up with PCs, programmed them, headed web teams. So, first, I could NOT get the software to install and connect to the printer wirelessly. Did everything, including finally entering WiFi info manually, re-booting router, etc. The software would NOT finish installation; it kept reporting an error communicating to it.
Then I called Epson Tech Support. I got a heavy Indian accented man, who forced me thru all of the baby steps, and apparently could not understand me all that well, either. FINALLY, after 45 minutes and one disconnect, got the printer connected. In and amongst that, he is adamant that I must NOT use the driver that the software installed, because it includes Fax, "which I do not have". Huh? I don't plan on using it, but how is THAT hurting things? So delete the drivers, add the printer manually, and "done": And there is 1.5 hours I will never get back. Hung up, and then discovered that the printer will not do ANYTHING with the scanner...apparently the scanner software never got properly installed, perhaps because the printer installation never finished during the software installation.
So, I go forward with trying to update/install the scanner software, but it channels me to a software updater, that tells me I have new firmware to install in the printer...and THAT fails, too, as it cannot find the printer.
What a terrible experience.
BUT, it's cheap, and I bought two of them to cover the bases.
Even more important, the ink can be found at super-low cost. I mean, SUPER LOW COST. That is everything to me. At $30 a cartridge, printers are basically just ink distribution centers. If you print a lot, you have to talk ink first and printer second. I researched the ink first and bought the printer second. So, if you print one picture a week, buy something else. If you want the best quality imaginable, buy something else. If you print 50 pages a week and feel that average quality is fine, buy two of these.
Everything works as advertised and the print quality is excellent. Considering the replacement cost of the ink cartridges included, the printer is almost free. I have always used non-OEM ink cartridges (they contain more ink for a fraction of the cost and they work just as well). If I get to good performance for about two sets of ink cartridges, the printer was free. All I paid for was the cartridges.
Now if I could only determine if it does 2-sided scanning using the automatic document feeder. Anyone know?
Update: I've knocked it back to 3 stars ... it uses too much ink.
Update 3/16/19: Printing on plain paper is fine but printing on Avery Business Card Stock is problematic. After a sheet or two, the printer shuts down in the middle of printing and when I turn it back on, it first says do a nozzle check then it says all the cartridges are not recognized -- even after installing a brand new set of ink cartridges. To fix it, I have to remove the cartridges, power the unit down, then turn it back on and re-install the cartridges.
IMO, the whole "four separate tanks saves money" is a scam. Within days of replacing one cartridge, the others will signal they they, too, are empty. I think you're better off with two cartridge printers.
Top reviews from other countries
Since then, I have had wireless communication issues with both my PC and Mac. The prints will sometimes go through later, sometimes not. I've already had to uninstall and reinstall the printer on my PC because, even after rebooting both printer and computer, I had an error that wouldn't let me print anything with no explanation as to why. I've also had print jobs where only part of the document prints - again, no idea why. Scanning, likewise, had given me difficulty and will not work wirelessly (though, to be fair, my old HP wasn't great in this way, either)
I will admit that the print quality is nice, but that requires actually getting it to print consistently, first.
All in all, I'd suggest looking elsewhere for a printer. I'm considering returning this one after giving it a good try.
but last month I started having a problem connecting it to my wifi connection and I'm so disappointed because I love this printer and when I looked to see if should just buy another one but in order to buy the same one it is just way too expensive for me right now but rather then buy a different one I'm going to wait until I can save enough money to buy the exact same one. I just can't say how much I loved my printer and would recommend that out of all the printers I've had over the years this is the best buy by far.
I've never had a printer ever last 2 years and its still working im just having with conecting to my wifi . if anyone would have any ideas about my problem i would love to hear from them
thank you Epson workforce for making a awsom printer
